Newt in 2008?

Don't laugh. Well, you can laugh, but then you may want to cry, because it looks like he may actually do it. From BOR, Newt Gingrich has organized Meet Ups in fifteen different cities ... thankfully, Austin is not one of them .. not yet at least. Unfortunately, our central Texas brethren Killeen (one measely member, hahaha) and neighbor to the east Houston have joined the Newt-astic Revolution. When the Draft Mark Warner people contacted Meet Up to set up a Warner Meetup, they were told that the 2008 Meet Ups had not started yet. Now, Newt tries to hide the intentions for his Meet Up under the veil of his new book (I would state the title here but it was unremarkable after looking at it for a few seconds that its name currently -- and hopefully eternally -- escapes me), but that is all bullshit and everyone with half a brain -- and let's give Newt the benefit of the doubt on that one -- knows it. Meet Up was a great tool for Dems this year, but are they acting biased?

It is kind of sad and kind of shocking to realize that a Newt Gingrich presidency would be less extreme than George W.'s. Newt has admitted publicly that Social Security is not in a crisis and has been a vocal critic of the Bush administration's misadventure in Iraq.

That's a good point. Republicans are rarely good, but at least in the 1990s, as a Burnt Orange Report writer pointed out, they made sense. Newt has ideals and he seems to stick to them. That's more than we can say of the current leadership. Despite that, I think Newt's "ideals", however true to them he may be, would lead to a disastorous administration that, while not as bad as Bush, would be pretty damn bad. I hope he does run though ... everybody likes some entertainment.
