Governor Dean's Convention Speech

I got a mass email today from Tom McMahon, Exec Director of Democracy for America, and Governor Dean's Deputy Campaign Manager during the primaries. Dean will speak next Tuesday in Boston during primetime. You can organize a party during the speech at DFA. I look forward to Dean's speech, but not as much as I am looking forward to Barack Obama's. It will also be great to hear from Jimmy Carter and, unless I am mistaken, George McGovern.

UPDATE: From looking at the schedule, it doesn't appear McGovern will be speaking after all. But he does have a new book out this month. I will post on the book, which looks very good, later.

What are your views of Jimmy Carter? I heard once that he might of been one of the greatest Presidents because he had the stupid idea of telling the truth. Therefore, Americans just didn't "get" him.

Jimmy Carter had so much potential and so many great ideas when he arrived in Washington. The fact that the great majority of those ideas were unfufilled (for many reasons that were mostly out of his control) makes most people consider the Carter Presidency a failure. To me though, the most remarkable thing about Jimmy Carter is how he has used his one time position of President to make such a great impact in the world following his presidency. Carter founded Habitat for Humanity and even won the Nobel Peace Prize. I believe Jimmy Carter may be the greatest man to ever be President, though he is not even close to the greatest President. He had so much potential, but circumstances mostly out of his control led to him getting only one term. I would also say that Carter is, along with Clinton, the most politically gifted and smartest president in modern times.
