Former Ohio Governor Dick Celeste for Vice President?
Many Democrats think that if John Kerry wins Ohio, than the Presidential race could be his. This mindset has led many Democrats to long for a potential VP candidate from Ohio. Some have even gone as far to suggest 80-something year old former Senator and astronaut John Glenn as a potential candidate.
Well, what about Dick Celeste? He was a really popular governor of Ohio (he was elected for 2 terms, his last term by over 60%) and he has an international resume for his service as U.S. Ambassador to India from 1997 to 2001. Before he decided not to run for President in 1988, he had assembled a hardcore following among young people. Even though he didn't run, he turned all his followers and money into a group called "Participation 2000." The group is now called "CampaignCorps" and is part of EMILY'S List. Celeste has been described recently as "the first Howard Dean" or "the 80's version of Dean." Not bad if you ask me.
He is only 67 -- certainly not young, but only 6.5 years older than Kerry -- and he seems to be healthy.
Does anyone agree that Celeste would be good? Should I register KerryCeleste.com ? Well, probably not yet. But the Kerry-X scenarios are getting more and more intriguing . . . .
